Top 'cool features' of B9 A4: fixed nav screen
I'm not sure many of these features qualify as cool, but this article confirms that the nav screen is indeed not retractable. Personally I don't think this is such a big deal, but I don't see how Audi can argue that the retractable MMI screen is such a great feature on the A3, Q7, A6, A7, etc. and then go against it with the new A4. If cost saving is the motive, it would seem like the lower end A3 should also have a fixed screen.

I agree. I frequently put down the MMI screen on my A6. I really don't need to look at that thing when I am driving where I don't need NAV since I've been going there for 30 years and with Sirius set on one channel. The simple line of the dash without the screen up is much more pleasant to look at IMO.

Agreed. When I first saw the fixed screen ion the C300 I thought it was horrible, and I'm disapointed Audi followed their example. When Audi started the dash design dash design with a clean sheet of paper, I'd think they could have included a retractable screen, or at least one that was smoothly integrated into the dash.

Is the new dash design in the MY 2016 or 2017? I have seen it identified as both. I am in the market for a new car to replace my 12 Avant. Since they have now reduced my choice of wagons the Q series SUV's and an Avant mascarading as an Allroad. To stay in the family I am considering a new A4, but with that screen, the C250 4 matic could be an option.

Consumer reports and Motor Trend were informed it will be in USA shores March of 2016, not the summer. The Non retractable infotainment centre is pre-production model, The USA is not Europe, you will have people thinking it is a tablet, breaking into your cars to steal it.
Manual transmission may be an option via special order. The 2015 Audi I brought, in my dealership they never stocked any manuals however, it was available as a special order from Audi, that trend most likely will continue

I can only hope that Audi gets wind of these growing concerns with a fixed nav screen in the new A4. I think you're absolutely right about people here in the US breaking into the cars thinking they're grabbing a tablet which can be sold for some quick cash. Audi seriously needs to rethink this before these cars start rolling off the assembly line. Maybe an online petition is in order.

Since it takes 18-24 months to effect a design for production, it would be a challenge for Audi to make significant changes to the screen at this point. Maybe the following year.

The MB C-class has a similar fixed tablet-like nav screen and I have not heard reports of the Doomsday theft scenario being discussed here.
