Default $800 for 55k service

Hi guys,

I got an estimate from my Audi dealership for the 55k service at $800. I was told it's the "big" one and I won't need it for another 55k miles. I'm already seriously considering getting a new car (mine is a 2012 3.0 A6) so not 100% sure I want to put the money in if I'm going to trade it in. On a flip side, I might and just wait out the year. Are indy shops reliable with regards to these supposed "big" services? or would you recommend I stick with the dealership?

thanks!

Yes the 55 is one of the biggest, 75 is also a big one. $800 for everything Audi recommends seems like a deal. I had to combine the 55/65 plus a "complete" fluid change and it cost me $2K.

The link below takes you to Audi recco schedule, click your year and download the pdf.

55k service
(All prices are rough estimate with labor)
Oil & filter...at the dealer probably $100-200
Spark plugs...$200
Pollen filter...$50
Air filter...$100
Supercharger belt...$200
Snow screen cleaning...$50
Misc checks...$???
Maybe brake fluid flush depending on time.
Sounds about right if they do everything.
It's the labor that gets ya. Oil and filter kits online with better than dealer oil are $60-$70 if you are a DIY kinda guy. Same for air filter only $20.
Spark plugs and the belt might be harder depending on your level of DIYidness.
An indy shop will definitely save on labor if you have a good one in your area.

Just to give you a cost perspective I had my 15k servicing at done Precision Imports, my indie shop, for $245. Same 15k servicing @ Audi $585.

Our local shop did my son's 2012 S4 for a lot less. $492.

I was just quoted $1050 to do my 55K service. Not sure if my car being an A7 versus A6 accounts for the considerable difference. An indie shop quoted me $875 for the same service. I'm only at 51K, so I have a little bit of time to scout out the best deal.

Another option is purchasing the Audi Care Select for the 55K and 65K services. It currently runs $819 for the C7s.

And I believe the coverage is good for 4 years from the date of purchase.
