06 a6 to 2012-2013 a6
Greetings,
I am going to upgrade my wife's ride to a newer model this spring and was wondering what the newer a6's are getting for real world mileage. I am also kicking around a s6 but I know with chipping the a6, I can almost get the same results. Not the only factor in the purchase but a starting point.
Thanks,
Bob

My overall at-pump average is 34 MPG in my '14 TDI.
My last tank cost/mile was .07, with the lifetime average at .10 and dropping.
Average miles driven between fill-ups is 662, with a total useage of 428 gallons of diesel. Lifetime average price paid per gallon is $3.54.
Love the TDI!!

I think that the OP considering chipping an A6 or even an S6 then the diesel is not in his sights. If MPG's are the priority then diesel is an option. If the USA had a biTDI then they would sell a lot.

TDI is an amazing car with great mpg. Doing 31 mpg in mixed driving. Car and Driver has reported that it is faster 0 to 60 and in the quarter mile than the 3.0. In addition, APR has a tune for the TDI making it even faster.

There are about 60 2012-2015 A6 drivers reporting their fuel usage. You can pick and choose by using the filters.

As you can tell from my sig I have a 2012 A6 prestige. I have driven several long trips in the 3+ years I have had the car. Current mileage is 50K plus. On my first trip which was round trip SoCal to Northern VA I averaged 28mpg. Second trip SoCal to Nashville, which included wife and her luggage, I averaged 27mpg. Third trip was SoCal to Austin, again with wife and luggage, I averaged 26mpg. The third trip mpg was probably influenced by higher cruising speed since the average speed limits for this trip were higher than the first 2 trips. Also starting with the second trip I had the stage 2 tune. Overall I am very satisfied with the performance I have and the highway mileage. If you are the type to cruise at or a little below the speed limit than I would expect the highway mileage to be higher.

I moved to a 2012 A6 from a 2005 A6 and the MPG has definitely been much better. Most of my driving is highway driving between home and work (about 35 miles).
The graph shows my MPG and cost per mile over the past year. There is a spike midway through due to losing a receipt and not having accurate mileage at the time of fill up. My current mileage is about 25K.
