Seems so. The area in our car is just a storage compartment....no outlet, nothing. I discovered it recently when we took a longer trip and I connected my Valentine V1 from my other car....had to stretch the coiled cord to the center armrest console. The owner's manual suggests not all cars are so-equipped. Very annoying and disappointing north of $60,000.

Yeah, that's a bummer indeed. My '05 A6 has a 12V next to the single cup holder (no room for that now that there's two) and one under the armrest.

I guess you just need two V1s! I used to have one a bunch of years ago, but I began to feel like there's just a false sense of security with them. Using Waze is probably your best bet. Trying to figure out how to get VIM going and use the dash for Waze from my current iPhone 6 Plus or using an older iPhone dedicated to that purpose.

This is the cooler I use in the A6. It was about 30% cheaper when I bought it in 2009 for $616. I brought ice cream to a picnic a month ago and the electricity in the pavilion was off, so I ran my S5 at idle with the cooler plugged it and it maintained about 10°F.

Engel Coolers - Engel MT27 AC/DC Fridge-Freezer

They make smaller and larger models.

That is pretty awesome. I don't have the need to drop $840 on something like that, but super cool (pun intended).

You could get something like this and install it in the ash tray area. They have several different styles.

Now that is hard core. Does one come with a launch button?

I've been eyeballing this cooler. Not real hard core but based on the reviews and the price, it seems like a pretty good buy for casual use.
