I finally got enough time away from the 2-year old to have a better look at this and it turns out the Audi engineers made a very modular and durable little fold out power cover there.

My initial check of it saw some white exposed plastic on the ends which made me think it was sheared off. In fact, it had just been pulled/popped off the little clips(?). I was able to pop it right back in and fold the cover back up. The engineers must know that's a rather iffy place to put something too fragile - where many feet can kick at it.

Sorry for the noise on the forum. Hopefully I've helped someone else out too with the question.

I surely will take away from this the option to ask nicely if any other breakages happen in the next few (early) months of ownership. I think that's good advice and the right dealer would have been happy to help.
