Default 2013 (new to me) a6 steering wheel damage

Two days ago I purchased my first Audi, a 2013 a6 2.0 quattro and absolutely love it thus far. It was very clean and I got a good price, but I have one nagging problem....

I have noticed that the leather coating on the steering wheel is coming off around the 12/1 o' clock positions. Either I completely missed this when inspecting it or I somehow had a chemical on my hand that damaged the wheel. Is there any way to fix this? I'm thinking that for a 2013 w/ 44k miles this sort of wear should not be expected from the sun, etc.. I'm debating calling the dealer back since it is only 2 days old to see that they can do for me. Any chance they would cover this under warranty given the car is only 3 years old?

Cosmetic items are not covered under the manf. warranty. That said, since you just purchased the car, you could try talking to the dealer and see what they say.

If the dealer is no help, there are people selling stock wheels. They upgrade to flat bottom wheels. Look on ebay, AudiWorld and Audizine classifieds.

I have a stock wheel no longer being used complete with regtangular-ish airbag that I can part with. I can't give mine away for free however as I have an expensive hobby of modding my car.
PM sent.

Good luck.

I have both a sport (3 spoke) non heated partial perforated with paddle shifter and a non sport (4 spoke) heated steering wheels in black. Both in good condition. They are not free too! 😁

Pm me if interested.

Thanks.

You don't need to replace the steering wheel. It is merely the leather that is worn. You can buy leather dye in a small bottle and paint it over and it will look as good as new. I have done it on my bmw seat in the past and it looked great. Just make sure you buy the exact leather dye color code (may need to call dealer)...look online for the dye. Alternatively, you can bring it to any local leather shop and they will fix it up and it will look new. Sometimes they put a bit of compound before they "re-dye" the leather. This is an easy fix. No need to buy new steering! Let us know what happens.
