2016 A6 2.0T?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has test driven the 2016 A6 with the new 2.0T engine. In addition to the increase in horsepower and torque, the quattro model with tiptronic transmission is supposed to reach 60mph in 5.8 seconds. That is a lot faster than the 2015 model (6.6 seconds), and only .7 seconds slower than the 3.0 engine.
I am planing on test driving the car in the coming weeks but wanted to know what others thought about it, and how it performed compared to the 3.0 liter.
Thanks

I have not had the chance yet but am considering a 2016 to replace my 2013 A6 2.0 Quattro in a few months. That being said, bear in mind that the 2016 2.0 is the same basic engine that has been available in the B7 A6 since 2012, tuned for greater output. Beginning In 2013 it was offered with Quattro and Tiptronic.
The version I have is peppy enough for me and quite smooth running. I really do not think it is much more fuel efficient than the 3.0, but it is a lot less expensive. I am hoping the 2016 will be even peppier. I think the 2.0 handles better than the 3.0, plowing less in the twisties, but ultimate grip really depends on the tires which on man 2.0 are not the best for handling.
I had a 2010 with the supercharged 3.0 V-6, so I do have a basis to compare the 2.0 and for me it is quick enough.

Thanks for replying.
I currently have a 2014 A6 P+ 2.0T (220hp). I like the car a lot and I agree with you that the engine is quick enough, but was looking for more power and even more refinement. Initially I was set up in getting the 3.0 engine (I have read so many wonderful reviews about it and with the increase to 333hp it is now basically the same engine as in the S4), but after looking at the performance numbers of the 2.0 engine, now I am not sure. I could save some money or add more equipment to the car.

Having had an early example of the current 3.0 in my 2010 A6 and then the 2.0 in my 2013 A6, I actually find that the 2.0 idles more smoothly and is smoother in accelerating, though not so fast as the 3.0 was, of course. The mpg difference is only about 2 mpg (the ’10 3.0 was overall 22.3 mpg at the current number of miles compared to 24.4 mpg for the 2.0).
Thanks!

A few weeks ago I test drove both in 2016 MYs, and ended up buying the 3.0 version. To me the acceleration of the 2.0 was not even close to the 3.0, plus the mpg diff was not significant enough to warrant buying the 2.0. Plus I thought I felt some turbo lag in some acceleration situations with the 2.0. I'm very pleased with my 3.0.
Thanks for sharing. Did you test drive the quattro 2.0 or the FWD?

I think the 3.0 is unquestionably faster than the 2.0 (as would an S6 be compared to the 3.0), but not enough to make me spend more money for that speed. I tend to stay at or close to posted speed limits and I rarely have anyone in the car with me. I don't really notice turbo lag in my 2.0 probably for the same reason: I don't mash the loud pedal. Another factor I must admit to is that I find it fun to tell people that it is "only" a four cylinder engine in such a big, lovely car; sometimes they do not believe it. I feel it gives me "bragging rights" in terms of tree-huggers I talk to - lol
