To schwantz and snagitseven, I am awaiting my 2016 A6 (ordered, awaiting build). Do you know if the 6 upgrades apply to A6 as well as S6? I also do not understand how 2016 models would need NAV updates as they are using google maps. Your input is greatly appreciated.

The 6 free map upgrades should be valid for any MY2016 with MMI Nav+.

The car's internal map data and internal POIs are located on the Audi's hard drive. Google Earth (it's not a map) is an online overlay that uses the car's map to view Google Earth-like pictures from above. All navigation and Google online POI search data use the car's map as well. What you will be upgrading in the future will be the car's internal map database, streets and POIs. Don't confuse the car's fixed (and somewhat limited) built-in POI data with the dynamically updated online Google search POIs (same POIs as Google maps when you go online with your computer or smart phone). They are accessed separately in the MMI nav and will appear on the car's map.

The Google Earth overlay, online search, other info like gas stations, parking, news, weather, events, online send to car and wifi hotspot all require an Audi Connect paid for use or subscription. On the MY2016 it will be through AT&T.

For 2016 A6 owners in the US (sorry for the size):
Edited: Complete Package is 12.54 GBs in size...

From the Audi website...

'Bout time Audi caught up with the PND guys. Although, lifetime maps would have been better. Garmin and others can give free lifetime map updates in a $200 device, why not Audi with a $60K car?

Yeah, so like I said, 5 free updates, enough to get you through 3 years of ownership, assuming that they hadn't screwed early adopters and released an updated a month after we got our cars...

They must really build roads fast in your area to warrant that frequency of updating. 5 free updates would do me for over 10 years.

The wording implies that you can't skip updates. Only the first 5 updates released after the version installed at the factory can be installed free of charge. The 6th update would not install for free anymore and probably needs dealer activation. If the first update you install is the 5th update released after the one that is already installed then you can only install one update for free.

That's how I read it.

That is exactly how I read it!
So I posted the screen shot from map update to see if there are other interpretations. On Friday when I pick up my car from the dealership, I will ask the dealer about this.
