According to Audi, the software was installed on a grand total of 14,000 cars sold in the U.S., and not on any of the 3.0 TDIs used in the A6s in the US. Audi Announces U.S. Models Affected By Dieselgate

Not really. I just focused on the part where you said "Other people feel like you" which I think was your reason for posting it.
The summary of the article is this:
1) Bob Rand, Sky is falling and/or yippee I get quoted in the newspaper, but, I really gotta drama it up!
2) VW cheating on diesel
3) Dealers don't know what to do
4) Must be a lot of bad apples in VW
5) Dealers still dont know what to do
6) VW does make cars other than diesels
The article is still a fluff piece.

So guess this is a fluff piece too

I believe this scandal will scare people off buying diesel which will make it harder for me to get rid of my car when the time comes. So in that way, selling it will be harder. I'm not completely sure about the $5K number though, especially after year 5 on the depreciation curve. Time will tell.
My TDI is saving me $1700/year on fuel costs vs my old 4.6L V8. I really could care less if the car is $5K less in 5-7 years as long as there is someone to buy it when I get tired of it. So I'll get 10K instead of 15K when I sell it. At that point, I've already lost $50K on the darn thing.

For what it's worth, I did get $125 for my Corolla in the class action lawsuit against Toyota after their unintended acceleration drama. Specifically it was for diminished value, and you actually had to sell your car during a 16 month period when the drama was in the media. The amount even depended on the specific month that you sold your car, and it trailed off within a few months after the media coverage died down. It also depended on the model with some cars like the Prius getting $3,000 and the Camry up to $2,000. Meanwhile, I think the lawyers received $227 million.

Where'd you get this information? The Audi USA website only mentions a stop-sale on the A3 TDI (which have been pulled from the configurator) and states that: "Audi diesel models with the 3.0-liter V6 TDI engines – the Q5, Q7, A6, A7 and A8 – were not referenced in the EPA’s notice, they remain on the market, and are available at dealerships."
