Default Audi’s New Fleet of Robots Will Supervise Its Local Mechanics

Can they have some to supervise the sales staff?

What a bunch of crap. Nice way to waste money that will eventually trickle down to higher prices. I would love to see the laughing faces of mechanics when that robot trips on something in the shop and falls over. What is this world coming to?

Or worse, it trips over something and smashes into your car while being serviced.

Oddly, I kinda like the idea. They look sorta cool.

I don't think it is a bunch of crap at all. if used correctly, it should help in terms of diagnosing tricky service issues.

Rather than a local tech making a call to Audi and trying to explain the issue over the phone, they can show it to them in real time

Aside from the knee-jerk repsonse jokes, after watching the video, I think this will be an excellent tool for the techs. Not sure the robot camera as configured could physically see everything on or in the car the service tech can but it does give a direct, remote communication to a master tech.

Yep, just what we need - robots tripping over crap and banging up our cars - and dealer techs who don't know how to measure rotor runout

No sound for me - but here's the soundtrack which should have gone along with it (Audio NSFW!)

Dude, if they want to show something on the car, why not do it with an ipad or something similar? its 100x cheaper and you can put away. I would like to see that robot lean over the engine compartment and look at something in the engine bay.
On top of this, they want those things zooming around shop floors? this think will flip over on the fist pebble. I want to see them run in winter with salt all over the place. Its a liability waiting to happen.

Until they have anti gravity bots flying around I can't see this sort of thing taking off.

Hmm, an IPad. I can just see it now since there's prob just one master tech per shop. "Hey Joe, have you seen the service iPad?" "Mike, I think I left it in that A6 I was working on this morning". "Well, Joe, that customer just drove off with it".

BTW, "Dude"??
