I usually stay in the A8D4 forum but now a friend of mine has asked for advice buying a used A6 allroad from 2011 with 50K miles.
I've browsed this forum for typical issues to look for but found nothing.

Hoping for some help identifying what to check and look out for before buying?

A8, I don't know what country you are writing from, but this forum is mostly made up of folks in the USA and Canada. The powertrain combination you mention was never sold here. We have had a 3L diesel lump in the Q7 for a few years. However, they are few and far between here. The 3L diesel is being offered in more vehicles now. In fact, I believe we can get diesel power in every vehicle except for the TT, A4 and R8.
