Audi conversion kit 8T0-051-431
Hello all,
I've recently purchased a 2013 A6 3.0 and like others I found out too late about the t-mobile turndown of 3G in certain markets. I'm lucky enough to be in one of those areas. Like others I have call AoA to get told sorry not going to replace your module, dealer has tried as well to call to no avail.
Has anyone attempted install the conversion kit 8T0-051-431 themselves? Looking through the service manual i'm even having a hard time locating where it is located in the vehicle.
Thanks in advance!

It goes inside the 5F module, which is the MMI head unit. The 5F needs to be removed and opened up to replace the modem. Then it needs to be coded and the firmware needs to be updated to at least 0814. I'm not aware of anybody having done it themselves. Have you approached the dealer and asked if they would replace it if you supplied the part? BTW, T-Mobile is not turning down 3G, they are re-farming their spectrum, which means they are moving the 3G bands to a different part of their spectrum to allocate more of it to LTE. However, they are turning down 2G in 2020, so if you don't get the part replaced you will only have connectivity for another 3 years.

Thanks superswiss. I haven't approached the dealer yet about installing the part, I'll give that a shot. The firware is good to go, I had the dealer update maps and firware before I took delivery

So i went ahead and ordered the part. It's on its way. I was met with resistance from the local Audi dealer that they won't touch it. I did find where to install and it looks fairly simple. Is there any recoding that would have to be done?
Otherwise i'll try 3rd party Audi shop and see what they say.

I have the part as well and am thinking of having my dealer shop look at it. I do not know where it goes (would like procedures and pictures if possible!!!). but I would attempt it if it was not so bad. CCIE - keep posting here and if you attempt it, please try and take a few pics and do a write up!
Greatly Appreciated!

I ordered it from audiusaparts.com I was finally able to sweet talk the service advisor to do the work once they verified the part.

Perfect - thanks! I just ordered it and I hope the dealer will install it without a problem. Could you share what the cost was for the replacement and coding by the dealer?
