It's a crap shoot. Some will win and some will not. Like with any insurance (or Vegas casinos), the companies selling them are going to make money overall. In any case, I believe these extended warranties can be purchased at any time during the manf warranty, so why not wait and decide later?

You could argue that the LED headlights should be covered but it clearly states "sealed beams" are excluded. At $2800 a pop, they aren't going to be generous and pay for them. Also, there are other items not covered that are safety related, i.e. brakes and such. No wiggle room here as the policy is written.

Just ordered mine yesterday and wondering the same things about an extended warranty myself. The only reason I've been considering one is the tons of computer modules to drive all the 'toys' we think are so cool. A comparable E class Mercedes has 64 computers - I would have to believe the A6 has a similar amount. Would the Platinum coverage take care of these along with their sensors?

Snagitseven, I agree, wait now, decide later. I just wanted to make sure that the protection plan wasn't adding anything extra during my first 4 years, that I didn't already have with the standard manf coverage.

I'd rather keep the $$ in my pocket and pay down the road IF we decide to go that route.

Just so you know the price will be higher down the road, because it is usually determined by mileage.

I pretty much decided to cancel mine as soon as dealer straightens out the dates on my purchase. I rarely keep a car more than 3 years-4 years, I will hit 50K miles ate around 38 months on this car if my driving remains as it has so I would rather take the $1600 and save it and use it toward the next car. My original thinking was I might try and keep this car at least out through 4 years and around 60K miles and I could use the warranty to cover me and as a resale play at that time if I unload the car at around 55K miles.

I have decided against buying an extended warranty from Audi, but I am paying for the Geico mechanical breakdown insurance in my policy. It costs an extra $58 per 6 months on my insurance premium, and will go in effect when the factory warranty expires.

I specifically contacted Geico and spoke with them about what would be covered. The big thing for me was to confirm if any computer modules go bad, they will replace them. They said yes. Wear & tear items are not covered.

On my BMW prior to this car, faulty modules were by far my largest expense in repairs after warranty.

That's an interesting potentially cost effective scenario. Any chance you could post the Geico written agreement for our perusal?

Perhaps, but with the wide range of pricing being offered today, I'd bet it will still be competitive.

I have sent in a request for the official coverage docs. Will be happy to post once I have them.

Here's a link to Geico's site with some basic info:
