The data will never be correct. As stated those with more problems are apt to sign up and report issues and many more will not even know about the site thereby limiting your overall share of actual problematic data.

A small percentage of wrong or unreported data can ruin an entire sample.

Unless you can broaden your data collection I don't think the outcome will be very reliable.

It sounds like you haven't looked into how this particular survey works.

This isn't a one-time survey. Instead, people join then respond following the end of each quarter. The stats only cover the time period after people join. Pre-existing problems don't affect the stats.

For the more reliable models the great majority of participants report no repairs in a given quarter. For some we have zero repair reports.

I think it's fine to collect information. I do it for a living.

The problem in your situation is not accuracy, it's generalization. Your sample is small and not random. Thus your ability to generalize to any group other than your participants is questionable (unknown, actually). By random chance your results may be similar to a larger population. Most likely, they're not. But there's no way to estimate how different they are or in what ways they're different.

You may have perfectly accurate data from your participants. Your data can be wildly more comprehensive than larger, shorter surveys. But you still can't generalize outside your group of participants with any assured accuracy--but that's what you're already implying that you can do.

The issue that some of us might have is not that your data is inaccurate, it's what you say the results represent or what we can learn from them.

A fellow presenting himself as Bob Rouleau hawked this same website on Rennlist and was spanked even harder by Rennlisters for the same issues that are mentioned here. They were a lot less polite. You guys are tenacious if nothing else.

We've updated our reliability stats for the A6 / S6 to include owner experiences through September 30, 2013.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2013 A6 / S6: 28, low
2012 A6: 43, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2012 A6: 66, < 1

We'll have further updates in February and in May. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.
