Got two of them, front and back. Not GoPro quality, but If hit, there won't be any he said, she said.

You never know what you're going to run into. Dash cam will save you a lot of unnecessary trouble. And this is a pretty neat dash cam as well.
Have you ever checked Blackvue though? saw their advertisement quite often.

I also have a couple a118c cameras in all my cars. I just hardwired them though, takes like 5 mins in the A6.

I checked out the Blackvue cameras. The added features like front + rear cams and cloud and wi-fi connectivity would be nice, but I'm not willing to spend $250+. I just paid off my car and house by being a generally frugal guy, so I'm trying to keep these spending habits and stay debt free.

Or maybe I'll just get a 2nd A118C for the rear.

The T-Power Plus battery pack is also an interesting idea that I had not heard of before, so I'll look into this.

pardon me for changing subjects, but, is that a radar detector on your dash? Do you just run the wire into the center console? What brand/model do you have? I like the idea of just setting on the dash because it can easily be placed out of view when not needed. Doesn't it roll around?

I was thinking of getting a battery operated radar detector, but after seeing how oswalde wired his camera (seemed easy to do, and the wiring is nicely out of the way) I might get a wired radar detector and route the wires the same way. Would require a lot of wire to get to the center console though. Or just set it on the dash the way you are doing.

I'm taking a long trip next month and would like to get one before then. I assume all the radar detectors are ineffective against lasers tho?

I'm the OP and no, I don't have a radar detector, but it looks like lmariorod does. You can get pads that are a little bit sticky to place things on your dash and sort of prevent them from sliding around.

Anyway, here's another reason to get a dash cam:

I now realize that routing the power cable over the A-pillar is not a good idea because that's probably where the side curtain airbag comes out.

So I changed it to go down the windshield using some clips that came with the dash cam.

I understand it is very difficult for Audi A4 to tuck the dash cam cable under the headliner. Do you need a special tool to "pry open" the headliner to slip the cable in?
