Default Diesel Death

An article on BBC News states that cities are planning to ban diesel fueled cars.

"The diesel ban is hugely significant. Carmakers will look at this decision and know it's just a matter of time before other city mayors follow suit."

Of course, the present batch of Audis will be pretty old by 2025 but the manufacturers will probably not be looking to produce them much longer because the market will be gone.

This is not surprising. Clean diesel is a myth and now with the scandals, the whole thing is finally falling apart. Germany for example banked heavily on diesel, but realized a while ago that they miscalculated. It has led to pollution in the cities that was supposed to be avoided with diesel. In the meantime petrol engines have been getting cleaner and cleaner and are far surpassing diesel now.

A ban on diesel cars would be largely symbolic, leaving large pickup trucks, big rig semis and medium sized trucks on the road, almost all of which are powered by diesel engines.

Not to mention railroad locomotives, ships, home heating systems, stationary power plants, off road surface mining and road building equipment, etc.

Diesel power will not be banned anytime soon but braindead politicians posturing for votes will always be spouting nonsense.

My original post stated "diesel cars". It seems that some of you assumed that the Artical was referring to diesel everything.

My statement referred to all diesels. Cars, trucks, busses, railroad locomotives, ships, etc.

So banning ships from major city streets is part of the intended ban?

Thank goodness there's an effort to reduce rush hour congestion. Now when is that 'wall' going to be built!

Yes, nothing worse than having a large oil tanker or container ship puttering along at 14 knots blocking traffic. I hope the wall will come soon.

Times are changing gents. This kind of reminds me a youtube video that I saw once about "suppressed" technologies and findings that would be better for the world - only because someone wanted to make a fortune. Remember that time when GM killed every EV1 ... Looks like Diesel is the next EV1
