Earlier today, my 1500 mile DEF warning light came up. My local VW dealer had AdBlue for cheap so after reading some threads here, it would appear that the A6 has a 24 liter (6.4 gallon) DEF tank. I did some math and based on what people have stated - with 1500 miles to do, I should be able to fill about ~5-5.5 gallons.

Imagine my surprise when I filled about 3.25 gallons with no more fluid going in (I bought a 1/2 gallon bottle which I kept filling from the jugs).

Could there be an issue with the filling neck, vapor lock or... smaller tank?

According to the owner's manual, the AdBlue tank is 4.5 gallons (17 Liters). In my case the dealer topped the tank off at 5000 miles and I never got a warning light before the 15000 mile service when they topped it off again.

Interesting. Perhaps I misread the 24 gallon figure. I shall investigate!
