Default Door won't unlock ....

With my key fob in hand, the car doors no longer open (the trunk works ). They will open if I press the unlock button. Anyone have any ideas as to why ? Perhaps week battery ?

The Battery will always be the quickest and cheapest way to find out. I know my car started losing functions as the battery died. May vary. Didn't the car warn you the batter was low, as it tells me when I should consider replacing it.

thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately replacing the battery did not work. I tried my other fob as well, and the issue is the same. I can use any of the buttons on the fob, and can open the trunk using the proximity sensors but cannot lock or unlock any of the doors.

I presume you've checked the MMI Car setting to see if the comfort door locks were still set.

actually no!! I did look around the MMI and thought I saw something that controlled the locks when you start the car (maybe central lock?) but need to look for the comfort door locks setting.

I'll be bringing the car in Fri. When I called, I was told that this sometimes happens with cold weather, but with the gas door stuck they would check it out.

On version 0609 of mmi I couldn't find a setting for comfort lock. There was a setting for central lock with a choice of all or driver.

Apparently there was a sensor fault and that was replaced. A separate fault accounted for the fuel tank door intermittently working.

I was told that in cold weather, the sensors for the doors are the first thing to shut down to spare battery life, which they intially thought was the problem until they ran the diagnostics.
