Default Dr. Colorchip

So, to make matters worse after driving 6 hours from PHX to LA to watch my Arizona Wildcats lose to Wisconsin, a semi with no business being in the left lane, blew a tire directly in front of me.

The main part of the tire tread flew out, hit my car, and left scratches and chips all over my hood and front bumper.

Don't know that I'll even bother with an insurance claim so will try a DIY. Is Dr. Colorchip going to be the best repair option?

Since any spot repair like touch up paint or Dr Colorship will never perfectly match the rest of the paint, if there is a large quantity of chips, especially on the hood, you will notice them no matter what. Unfortunately, nothing can take the place of a quality body shop repaint of the hood and bumper if you want the car to look like new and not see repairs.

After you repair, take a look at Xpel Ultimate film for the full front. It's ability to recover it's shape after being hit does a terrific job at resisting chips. Almost 3 years with over 30K miles and not one chip on mine.

Looks like I may actually need to go the repair shop route upon further examination:

Multiple areas of this...

Then these (second one is near the bottom of the front bumper so not as noticeable but it's by far the worst)....

That's going to need a spray.

I might need a bumper cover judging from the cracks in the center picture. Definately some spot putty to fill the divots.

Dr. Colorchip will only cover up the marks enough that you can't see them from a distance. Every time you wash the car, you'll still see them.

If you want the repair to be unnoticeable you'll need professional paintwork.

The XPel Ultimate film is a good suggestion for you, but keep in mind that if you get any paintwork done you will have to wait about 30 days before getting XPel film applied. Any new paint needs to finish outgassing before you can safely apply film over it. Otherwise you'll get bubbles under the film.
