I contacted AoA the day after getting the update, when my dealer said they couldn't flash the SW back to the previous rev. This was back in early September. They noted my concerns, but I have received no follow-up.

There has got to be some legal recourse on this if it comes to it. A car manufacturer can't change the dynamics of a 60k+ car and get away with it. I think it would be easy to show that steering is an important part of vehicle selection on a sports sedan, and that by significantly changing it they have changed the vehicle to the point that you wouldn't purchase it.

+1 I just refused it yesterday when I dropped my car off for a sway bar install and 15k check. There was two TSB's actually but I refused both. One because of this thread and the sounds like it is not fixed. Two, I have a tune and I am trying to hold off getting the TD1 notated on my car. Although I don't know why I am waiting, as if I actually do have a problem, the code will get thrown upon scanning anyways. My tech guys are pretty cool with me so they are trying to delay what will be the inevitable and I will get the TD1 sooner or later I think.

With the weather dropping again in Chicago, the problem is back. I just do the rest trick as it has always worked for me (knocking on wood)

I just received the new update and to be honest i'm not convinced it even help any. I can't feel or tell the difference. My dealer explained that this was supposed to give a some weight feel to the steering. I feel there will be another update in the works, cause this update is useless/waste of time. If we all shout out to Audi they will probably listen.

Because if you do have a problem and your tech guys are as cool as you say, they can offer you the chance to go back to stock (fully not stock mode) before connecting the Audi computer and submit the warranty claim.
Perform the TSB that the computer doesn't need to be connected, no problem there.
All the upgrades and TSBs that require the computer to be plugged you can perform them when your warranty is about to expire and when the TD1 code is irrelevant.

Oh yea, I get that part. Here is my question which I thought was brought up in another thread. If I went back to APR and reversed the flash, doesn't the scan still show the ECU was messed with? I was under an impression that once you tune, there is not going back to "stock". If that is the case, I am just saving the TSB's for mandatory non scan only or until I get more miles on the clock. My guys are cool and are well aware of what I have done to the car. In fact one guy stopped the other to just quickly explain the notes to enter so that they wouldn't scan the car. They look out for me at the end of the day which I appreciate.

I thought that being TD1 flagged would not affect the manf. warranty unless the mod was shown to cause or be the problem. I can see where there could be some disagreement issues down the road if an engine problem occurred but I have to believe that Audi would know if a car ever had an ECU mod done one way or the other, either somewhere in the code or by the damage that was done.

Apropos to really nothing, ECU mods may be kind of like the drug Flomax. If Flomax was taken even just one single time, if you ever have a need for cataract surgery for example, it permanently affects the iris making an operation significantly more difficult for an eye surgeon. (Unfortunately, I know this first hand).

The problem is nobody really knows how this Audi scan works (not even the tuners nor the Audi mechanics) if the software is looking at some logs stored in the ECU with max boost or max speed and different thresholds then what you said might be true, regardless going back to full stock (meaning your old image will be loaded into the ECU kind of a full reset into a phone that will take it to factory settings) then the TD1 will be generated.
BUT (and this is a big but) the experts in TD1 codes are the S4 members here and at audizine and I have read they have been lucky with warranty claims doing what I am telling you, even the GIAC guys said they have clients who have asked them to go back to full stock before taking into the dealer and no TD1 was generated, (there is a member at audizine who can check your vin and tell you if you were flagged or not)

So the morale of the story is to stall as much as you can the TD1 flag, because once it is flagged and God forbids you have bad luck then you are on your own.
