Steve, which dealer? My 2012 needed a quart at 2,500 and another at 7,500. I am at 8,500 now and it is 1/2 quart low. I plan on having it checked out at my 10,000 oil change. I bought mine at Audi of Silver Spring and have been happy with them so far. I bought the 2005 new at Audi of Rockville and had it serviced there until I bought the 2012 and switched. Speaking of the 2005, it has been reliable until now. It looks like I will need to have the ABS control module replaced and I might have to look for a good independent if the cost difference is material.

2012 A6, had it for 11 months now. Has 9500 miles on it and did the 5k service. The car says I'm not due for another service until 15k miles and my oil guage is at about 50% right now. Seems normal to me so far (knock on wood).

Last service 2300 miles ago and the electronic gauge shows full, could not find a way to manually check for it, in my Mercedes I had to buy a dipstick with mms and a friend from Mercedes sent me the Mercedes table that showed the level in mms, I will gladly do the same he but I couldn't find the hole for the dipstick either.

And if the dipstick is designed to leave it there or just for checking? I read it is made of plastic and not supposed to leave it there in other Audi models.

I have the dipstick in place now for about a month. The dealer did not know of any reason why it could not remain in the dipstick tube.

Sure looks like the tip is plastic. But since there is an O-ring I bet it can be used as a permanent replacement for the plug. Interesting that there are 2 different costs at ECS for the same dipstick unless I am missing something.

Len Stoler in Owings Mills, which is closer to my house. Silver Spring Audi is also a strong dealership.
I got the 15,000 mile service and they performed part one of the oil consumption test, which basically consists of a new crankcase breather valve, but it involves a good bit of work as the supercharger has to be removed to get to it.
Next step is to monitor oil consumption (via the MMI or I can buy a dip stick) and see how it goes. But they way, service tech (who knows his stuff) tells me that the C7's have a very sophisticated sonar based oil measuring system and there truly is no need for a dip stick.

As far as my 2005 goes, it was a great car. Sold it at the end of last year with just under 100,000 miles on it. Only issue I had was the MMI and NAVI (both of which were replaced under warranty). While the 3.2 was a nice engine and drivetrain, the 3.0T and 8-speed transmission on my new car are big upgrades in performance. I recently drove a friend's 535xi and there is simply no comparison, Audi wins all the way around.

Good Luck with the fix. Keep us posted as the miles go by as to whether the oil consumption fix worked or not. I go in for my oil consumption test Monday and will post results as the miles go by.

Default Confused on what electronic oil level indicator shows.

I am a bit confused on what the electronic reading on the MMI shows. Is it the entire oil content of the crankcase oil level of the car from nothing to Max as it would be shown on a regular dip stick or does the min/max only show the amount of oil in the crankcase that is over the add one quart that would be on the dip stick???, or to make it simple does the min line indicate the point that says you are 1 quart low?
