Firewall Access for RD Hardwire
Has anyone pulled wire through the 2012 A6's firewall?
I am contemplating the purchase of a Whistler 3600 and would like to know if there are any easy access points on the firewall that do not involve taking half the vehicle apart.
If I do this I will probably be purchasing the rear antenna as well, so that will involve wire routing the the back lf the vehicle. Any tips on the best way to route that way would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Neurobit

Do you have side assist or any of the other radar-based wizardry on your Audi? If so, you might consult the radar detector forums about whether a radar detector will work at all on your A6. Given the amount of complaining that seems to be out there about how A6s and other similar cars set off people's radar detectors with their K-band emissions, you might consider that a radar detector would be more hassle than help.

I poked around the engine bay last night and removed the black rain guard thingy (that's what it seems to be) that covers the break & windshield fluid reservoir tanks.
Found a grommet next to the break boost. I may be able to use it as a last resort, but I'd rather find an opening that's already being used by a wire loom (ECU perhaps?). I believe that the ECU may be located under the windshield wiper fluid tank, so I will try removing the tank this coming weekend if I have time and investigate.
Here's the grommet picture:

However, I'm trying to find out if anyone else has done this before I tear into it any further. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I've never seen a post of anyone going through the firewall on a C7. I have Blinder laser jammers installed in the grille that right now are not wired. The blinders are in the grille, the box is in the cabin, but I haven't made it through the firewall yet.

Perhaps easier to find a spot from the inside? It is very easy to remove the glove box to get a good look. I had an engine heater installed last week with a wire and receptacle for a cabin heater installed in the passenger foot bay. I'll have a look to see where they went through the firewall.
Caution: if you remove and unplug the glove box, make sure you don't turn on the ignition. I did by mistake and got the airbag warning light, had to have it reset by the dealer.

Would it be the same with the ECU? Wonder if I can unplug it without throwing codes.
I've played around some more this evening when I got home. Removed the windshield reservoir thank (and spilled some), and then popped the ECU to the side but didn't disconnect just to be safe.
I then removed the cover where the relays are located. Looks like that piece will also pop up and perhaps expose the opening to the inside cabin. I've also found another grommet behind this box that's not being utilized, so I may end up using it as a last resort.
BTW, what windshield fluid you all use? I need to fill it back up once I'm done with this project.
Will the regular auto parts store blue fluid be ok? Or does Audi recommend a special formula?
Thanks,
