I tried it last night and it does not work for me either.
Anyone have a video of what the "correct" motion is?
Is there a sensor under the bumper I can check for? I swear my car ('16 A6 prestige) does not have the darn thing.
When I did online chat with AoA they agreed with dealer it was not a feature on my car but you guys are saying it is and works...so now I'm really confused.

I swear mine has a sensor and knows when other people are around... at home, it works fine every time. In public, I look like a ninja kicking my foot all over the place and it never opens.
I did see one guy who posted a video here of gently kicking -and making contact- with the underside of his car and it worked.... I've tried kicking the car and it works for me too. I just don't think I really would want to make a habit of kicking my car.

The only time my worked flawlessly was when a Nissan hit me from behind at about 20MPH - it popped open with no problem. Of course, it cost $9000 every time it happens but at least it works.

I have a MY2014 Premium +. After reading this post months ago I found that if I pretend I'm leasurly kicking a ball right in the center under the bumper and letting my toe just touch deep underneath it works 100% of the time. I don't have to touch my toe under the bumper, but it's just a gauge I use for consistency.
I haven't confirmed, but it don't think you can walk up and just keep kicking if it doesn't open the first time. There may be a short delay before its enabled again.

There are questions regarding delay, location of the sensor, method of kicking, car locked or unlocked etc. etc. and I had my car in regarding this feature too but it appears that no user or dealer has a clue. I suspect that the designer has long since departed the industry (or world) and that there is no documentation of how, why or when it is supposed to work. If Audi put as much time and effort into building "the working version" as they did into the video that explains it then this thread wouldn't exist.
