Heh, for fun, Carmel IN was recently #1 in Money magazine for best places to live in the US, and most importantly for Audi owners, it's the roundabout capital of the U.S. Effectively all stoplights are being replaced by awesome roundabouts that make traffic flow fast and efficiently. We have about 100 roundabouts, with a bunch more coming.

It is freaking AMAZING. Population has skyrocketed in the city but the traffic has declined to virtually zero at the same time. They did such an amazing job with new types of traffic circles and construction of non-intersecting bridges over freeways. Check out the latest project and click through the different interchanges to see. Roundabouts are by no means limited to major intersections..

Boston is a completely different kettle of fish than Carmel or Indy. Gridlock at rush hour is nasty. Traffic circles where 5 different four lane roads come together is an exercise in urban warfare at rush hour. Boston arteries are old, were originally horse paths and there isn't one straight road among them. And to top it off, if you want to get to Cape Cod on a Friday evening or Sat morning in the summer, forget it. The two old, narrow choke point bridges across the canal can back up traffic on the interstates for miles. One of them terminates in one of those hated traffic circles.
