Default License Plate Bolt Length?

I think I'd like to get some of these ECS license plate bolts, but I can't figure out what length to get. If one uses a pretty slim plate/frame, what length is right?

I've had issues with rusting bolts in the past, so stainless will be nice, and the Torx connection will make sure the bolt doesn't strip out and make it harder for people to steal the plate. Thoughts?

I use m6 x 16mm with a license plate cover.

without it m6x 12mm should work well.

I don't know what the length is, but, I'll tell you my first maint task on the A6 was putting my new registration sticker on the license plate and I stripped out a few of those bolts. Please be careful with torque, that bracket is fragile.

Confirmed. I run no license plate cover with thing foam adhesive padding behind the license plate to prevent any vibrations. Bolts I used were M6 x 12mm.

I like the idea of the foam adhesive padding behind the license plate. Did you get something that was license plate-sized? If so, what was it/where did you get it? I'd guess there's just some foam tape material that could work too.

I think the rough edges of a license plate doesn't look good, so I got a stainless thin cover, and perhaps I could get some of that foam to put between the car and the plate and between the plate and cover.

I recently rebuilt a '74 CB360 and as part of that project fabricated a custom battery box. To keep the battery stable a friend provided me a few sheets of these foam pieces that are adhesive on one side. Maybe a 1/4" thick. He is an engineer and they use them in manufacturing a certain product I guess. I'll take a pic tonight of what they look like. Definitely don't cover the whole backing, just key spots to keep it elevated away from the plastic mount.

If I can get my hands on a few extra sheets from him I can drop one in the mail to you.
