In the market for a A6
* Is there a big difference from a 2012 vs 2013?
* Does the price justify getting a 2013 instead?
* What should I know about the A6 maintenance wise and what should I check before buying?
* What's your least favorite/one thing you could change about your A6?

Is there a big difference from a 2012 vs 2013? Other than a year, not much difference. 2012 is the first generation of the A6 C7 model. Get the 3.0T engine!
* Does the price justify getting a 2013 instead? Between 2012 and 2013, I think only mileage and maintenance history would fluctuate the price. If you can find a low mileage prestige 2012 I would go for that. Same car 2013 might be $500-1000 more.
* What should I know about the A6 maintenance wise and what should I check before buying? I recently bought a 2012 A6 Prestige and I love it. I had my A6 checked out by an independent mechanic who specializes on German brands. Later, found out the sales manager I dealt with goes there for oil changes and other repairs for his late model VW Passat. Definitely get everything checked out my a independent mechanic ($100) for piece of mind.
* What's your least favorite/one thing you could change about your A6? I searched for a few months finding a decent A6 3.0T in my price range. I definitely wanted a Prestige model or at very least Premium Plus with the Sport Pkg. In the end I went with a 2012 Prestige. I wanted the LED headlights, but for the price and condition of my car, I was able to look the other way and settle on my search. Everything else I wanted I could upgrade later...ECU, HID foglights, suspension and wheels. Oh yeah, I would have liked the power retractable sideview mirrors...I think its cool feature. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy with my purchase. I've only had it for 2k miles and so far, I am enjoying the ride and power. The other thing I would advise is to get the 3.0T engine. The power and smoothness is awesome!

Do you do oil changes by yourself or do you take it someone (how much do they charge)?
Is there major maintenance work needing to be done at 100K miles?
I have a lot of deals here in Chicago for 2013 vehicles for like 18K but they have like 60-70k miles.

3.0T is a stronger engine obviously. The smoothness of the engine is perfect for accelerating at an instant. And it doesnt seem as if youre pushing the engine. Dont get me wrong though, the 2.0T is strong too but you need to go Stage I to get to 3.0T HP. I have a 2.0T in my GTI and its a good engine for that size car. The A6 is bigger and needs the bigger 3.0T in my opinion. Search the forums as theres a few post about this.
And yeah i do my own oil changes. Its simple.
Im going to guess the cars in you area isnt selling A6 Prestige 3.0T for 18-20k unless its got 100k on the odo. Prestige 3.0T is the,way to go.
Good luck!

I didn't get hung up on getting 2.0 vs 3.0. I simply shopped for the best used A6 for my $.
Wound up (dec 16') with a 14' + 2.0 with 11k miles for $30k which still has 1 year of factory warranty.
Sweet car and I'd do it again in a minute.

Yes, in the end it's getting the car that best suits you and your needs. It was just my opinion on getting the 3.0T. The A6 is a beautiful car regardless of what engine.

You may want to consider this. It seems that Audi had gotten the oil consumption issue resolved for the 2.0 in MY 2012 and the 3.0 in MY 2013.

Bought my '12 prestige 3.0T almost a year ago. I shopped all the competition (535s, GS350's, etc) and have absolutely zero regrets. The 3.0 is addicting with all the torque down low and being that I put a 150 to 200 miles a day on it I wanted something I could enjoy and be comfortable in for hours at a time. The A6 fits the bill perfectly. My big question is how it will hold up above 100k miles as I'm counting on it going 150k+.

For me it had to be a very low mileage, CPO'd, 3.0 Quattro Prestige with 20" sport and black optics. Nothing less would do. I was not in a rush so time was on my side. It took awhile but eventually I got all I wanted and more in a color I love. No regrets on my part. I love it more every day. In the end it's all about personal tastes/wants/needs. Whatever you decide good luck and enjoy!

I had a C7 3.0 which I sold to get a C7.5. Biggest mistake ever since there are no tunes for a C7.5 (034 just came out with one today?).
The 3.0 is unbelievably smooth. One of the best 3.0V6s I've ever driven. Okay. I'll reword it. The best 3.0 I've experienced. The 2.0 works fine in the A4 (another lovely engine, especially for a 2.0). But the 3.0 is simply and undoubtedly better. The A6 needs the bigger engine.
