I don't know if it's because you have an older iPod that's not compatible or which MMI system you have, but I can confirm my 3Gs acting as an iPod with MMI 0566 or later (I now have 0715-2) will randomize tracks or albums.

You guys seem to know the Audi AMI/MMI from top to bottom so maybe you can answer my question since I couldn't find an answer anywhere else...
I looking to purchase a new 2015 Audi A3 with B&O. I want to play music through my iPhone by streaming it from Tidal (it's like Spotify but offers CD quality streaming, check http://tidalhifi.com).
I know that if I connect my iPhone via AMI Lightning cable there's is a lot of back and forth digital to analog to digital conversions in which I lose a lot of the CD quality.
My question is that if I first connect my iPhone to an external DAC (e.g. Apogee ONE, Audiophile quality music in your car - Apogee ONE DAC) and then connect it to the standard AUX IN, will the signal remain ANALOG all the way from the external DAC to the amplifier or will there be AD/DA conversions along the way?
Thanks a lot in advance!

The only major difference I can see is that the Apogee device you linked above has a volume control. The iStreamer did not have any controls to fiddle with. It just outputs a fixed signal, and then you use the volume control on the MMI just like normal.
To address your question, yes.... that DAC will certainly work if you have the AMI adapter with RCA audio inputs. Whether or not it will sound better than the direct iPod connection is not certain.
Lastly, as I am sure you are aware, you will lose the operational control of the device from the MMI. So you must operate the iPhone or iPod on the device itself if you are using an outboard DAC.

Two MMI related questions:
1) Any idea why the playback time might not work in 2012 A6 2.0T Premium when connected via Bluetooth to iPhone 5 and playing slacker radio? Everything else works on the display (artist/track/album). I was in a Q5 for a couple days and it all worked fine in that vehicle so I'm guessing it some glitch with the MMI as opposed to the phone/Bluetooth/music app.
2) if I shut the car off, and then turn back on, the entire media display stops functioning, no longer showing me the artist/track/album information, although it continues to play the music through above mentioned music app. Any thoughts why this happens?
Thank you!
