The best audio in a C7 is from a DVD where the source is derived from the original mix at 48K 20/24 bit (or sometimes a render from 96K masters).

Go listen in your driveway or VIM via VCDS for "Bands on the Run".

Good point. I forgot about DVD audio.

Just to clarify, the A6 will not play DVD A but it will play audio from a DVD.

OK, I bet that is more of a confusion than a clarification.

Well then.... So now the question is which audio formats are supported via DVD?

On pre-facelift C7 the Jukebox and SD Card do not support any lossless formats, not even WAV. So what does the DVD drive support? If no lossless formats are supported, then we're back at standard audio CD being the top-quality option.

PCM from a DVD at 48 kHz or 96 kHz sampling rate, 16 bit or 24 bit Linear PCM, 2 to 6 channels, up to 6,144 kbit/s is still the best that you can get, but I'm not sure if our DVD codecs can handle it.
My Acura plays DVDA discs at discreet 96khz at 5.1 channels, it sound very good but the system is a dead format and even Acura does not support it anymore.

My 2016 A6 with B&O plays the sample DVD-Audio from B&O. I can record these if I need to. Quality is phenomenal.

I need a lightning cable for my 2013 S5 and daughter's VW Jetta Sport, both with MMI. I understand the L cable is the one to get. Is that correct?

Do you mean that the B&O will playback the DVD-A format or audio from a DVD?

The 4F0 051 510-L appears to be the latest AMI Lightning cable.

Correction: 4F0 051 510 AL

Yes. Actually, the correct part number is: 4F0 051 510 AL
I believe the AL replaces the short-lived AC cable, at least for MMI Nav Plus.
