@snagitseven Great topic, thanks for sharing! Just a couple of questions if I may:
1. How can I tell if I have the MMI 3G or the 3G+? It's a 2012 S5 B8.5
2. Do I understand correctly, simply buying the 4F0 051 510-AL cable will allow me to mirror my iPhone on my nav screen? Like having Waze on the car's screen?

Thanks!

If you have Audi Connect, you would have the 3G Nav+. If not, you have the 3G.

No, none of the AMI cables allows for mirroring the phone on the MMI screen. There is a way to do it but it requires additional hardware and cabling. There's a thread or two showing how it's done. Do a search.

I will, thanks. So this cable only allows streaming video if I start an actual video on the phone?

Also, are you saying that if I don't have a SIM card it's definitely a 3G? I have a friend that has the version with a SIM and, except for the lack of SIM and of course Audi Connect, the systems are 100% identical. Is the difference so small between 3G and 3G+?

The L cable can only play videos (supposedly) from the native iOS app.

No sim card then no Audi Connect then no MMI 3G Nav+.
There are several differences besides Audi Connect (which is a big one with online Google Earth and Search, Street View and more) i.e. advanced DIS, larger POI internal database, faster processor and many others.

I tried this 4F0 051 510 AL cable and I could get sound but no cover art off my ipod with lighting connection. Is there a different cable I should be using to get cover art on newer ipods and/or itouches?

I have the Yellow grommet cable, and it shows artwork.

But the White grommet cable did not show artwork. Got that one first and had to swap out.

Having not read all 43 pages (don't hang me just yet, read on...), has anyone tried to installed chromecast in their car? I have and could post a pic of anyone is interested. There are how to vids available on youtube, but not specifically for audi.
Anyone in my car can cast videos to my screen, whether its iphone, android or whatevs or even just screen cast something. Didn't want to plug up a page with pics if it was already covered.

That should be in a separate thread.
