Default MMI Screen open/close at car start-up

Is there some way to mandate that the MMI screen not open/close each time the car is started? It is annoying to have the screen pop-out even if all I'm doing is pulling the car in the garage, or driving to the corner store to pick something up.

Turn MMI off (hold the volume **** down) before you turn the car off. Next time you turn the car on the screen won't pop up.

But doesn't that also disable the radio/iPod player? I want that to come on when I start the car, just without the screen popping up.

Yes that does disable music/radio, etc. There is a button to lower the screen to the left of the central air vents. I don't remember off the top of my head if that 'sticks' through an engine restart.

I believe it will "stick" through an engine start, but as I remember it, as soon as you put the car in reverse, it will open the MMI screen to show the back up camera view.

Exactly. Would rather not engage the screen needlessly for simple trips, at the same time wnat the radio to come on when I start the car.

If you do a lot of quick trips the screen could pop up dozens of times per day. Wonder what the mean time to failure is on this?

One of the many reasons that I like to lease for short terms of ownership.

There has been some discussion on this in the past. As far as I know, there is no way to override how the screen functions (apart from the 1st response below). Many owners have asked for a way to keep the screen "parked", and not to have it open/close all the time.

This is the crux of the matter. There should be a way to personalize how the screen functions upon start-up.

With my luck, the screen pop-up will fail day one after the warranty ends.
