Default Nav Update

Hi

I am a proud new owner of a 2013 A6.
I purchased a Nav 2014 / 2015 update from ebay. Part number 8RO051884CAT1000-22286. This is a SD card. It was an impulse buy and fairly cheap. I am trying to do some research before I try to upgrade.

Did I waste my money? Do I need a pin number from Audi before I can install this?

Thanks

You need to activate the new maps which require activation via Audi. Simply updating the maps will do nothing without activating them. So you'll still need to go to Audi and pay the proverbial Piper.

And that Piper isn't inexpensive. Reports are dealers are charging about $400 to update the nav maps/POIs. Their cost is based on the 3 hours or so that it takes to do the update even though a tech does not have to "babysit" the car during the entire process. I guess their justification is the bay space being used depriving them of other service use. Obviously, not efficient for them (yet profitable) and especially not for the car owner.

With the next A6 design, Audi will probably use the new MMI system as found in the A3/S3 that will supposedly allow the owner to download MMI and Nav updates via LTE.

Already there in the 2016 A6. It's even newer than the one in the A3/S3.

I didn't realize the 2016 C7 had the capability of downloading nav and MMI updates. I thought that came with the new MMI that has DIS map, display configuration, etc. as found in the A3/S3.

It can download and updates wirelessly, but since it is so slow, I'm worried how long it might take in the future.

I just updated my 2016 S6 by downloading nav update to a memory card from Audi connect then doing the actual nav update from the card. It did not take that long and I believe the update probably completed even after I turned the car off.

I did some research and there is a diy way to activate the map. I don't consider it stealing since I purchased the map. I think there is a problem with the vin number in the MMI afterwards. I need to do more research.
