I have to second this...All TSBs have been done to the wife's A3 and I have the papers to prove it (several thousand $ probably at this point) and not one service came with a bill. We are the second owner, not a minute or a mile warranty left of any sort. Dealer is currently doing oil consumption test free of charge. '08, 75k miles.
Same goes for the A6 before the current one.

Methinks, while you have a good relationship with your dealer, their service dept. is geared to charge for anything they can or are surprisingly ,isinformed. TSBs by definition are "required" and automatic (unless a customer declines their implementation) and are designed correct deficiencies, fix safety issues or improve performance. As I said before, after 2 dealers over 15+ years in 2 states, I have never had a one of them charge for a TSB in or out of warranty.

Well, the dealer stated that the TSB fell into a category that was listed to be free ONLY if vehicle was under warranty. He said some TSBs are applied regardless. But you are right, it is still within the service dept. discretion to do it for free under good-will. This was my first visit to the dealership. While it wasn't a bad experience by any stretch of my imagination, I did feel I was nickel & dimed for a simple computer update.
