Just how accurate is the oil level via the MMI?
Some days it will show full and other days it will be 75% full.
On a side note, is there a down side to overfilling her with oil?

Me too.
However, the MMI is pretty accurate. It will vary depending on if most of the oil is in the sump or if some is in the engine. The MMI gauge only represent about one quart so if down 25%, that only a quarter of a quart.
Overfilling is definitely not a good idea.

Another thought. I'd check the owners manual to see how/when the MMI is considered accurate.
Most cars when you check oil the engine is not running. I didn't see anything in my 2010 that said to have the engine running....albeit I may have skimmed that section thinking I knew how to properly check oil.

Yeah, overfilling is a bad idea, 537. The car will tell you when there is too much oil or too little oil via the DIS.
If you have a dipstick, you'd check the oil level 5 minutes after a hot shutdown.
The car monitors the oil level when the car is being driven. It's a dynamic system that's always measuring the oil level. This is what produces the display in the MMI.

If that is the case why did my car not indicate via the DIS when the dealer over filled by a quart? I only found out it was overfilled by checking my dipstick.

Jr, the car will alert you when a certain threshold is exceeded. A minor excess will not issue a warning.
