Default Oil recommendations

Good Morning All,

Today I will be performing my very first DYI Oil change on my Audi. I do not know much about oil and what is best for it. I know to get Synthetic and 7.2 quarts is what my car holds. I have watched instructional videos on YouTube on how the process is done. The only question I have is what type of oil should I be using. There are many different types out there like 5w-40 and such, but I do not know the difference between them. I will be changing my oil every 5k-7k miles and I do not plan on going cheap on any product. If I could get some recommendations along with why that would be great.

Thank you all,

the search feature is your friend but be prepared to go through a bazillion discussion thread on which oil to use.

my simple answer. use an oil that is approved by VW/Audi (aka meeting the 502.00 requirements)

https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...e-Bulletin.pdf

pick any oil that meets the requirement on the list and you will be fine. I did say pick the cheapest one you can find as well. Personally is Mobil 1 0-40 for me (walmart 25 bux for 5 quarts)

Does anyone use Edge 5W-40 Full Synthetic Motor Oil by Castrol? I called the dealership and they said this is the oil they use. I did some reading and most people are using this oil for turbo diesel engines?

Any oil meeting VAG spec 502.00 assures your compliance with the USA warranty, JLochan.

Correct about VW502. You're wasting money if paying more than $23 for 5 quarts for your oil. You can get a quality vw502 at that price and theres zero evidence another vw502 oil is going to make your car live longer. Enjoy...

OKAY NEW PROBLEM VERY SERIOUS!!!

As a new DIYer I tried doing my first oil change today and it went terribly wrong! I ordered an air power topsider 5060 to vacuum out my oil. After finishing the vacuuming I went to take out the tube that went into the dipstick part and it is not budging. It is completely stuck in the there!! I tried twisting it and pulling it out without yanking of course and still nothing. I've tried putting oil where the tube is to get some lubrication on it to see if it would slide out easier and still nothing. PLEASE HELP!

One one of my vehicles i use the hybrid oil from moly and oil consumption is nil.
