Have you changed it with VCDS? Its supposed to. I found the coding to stop it from doing it, but keep forgetting to do it.
Disabling engine stop when opening driver's door.
Recode the Central Convenience module to STOP the engine from turning off when you get out, having moved the car.
[Select]
[46 - Central Conv.]
[Coding - 07]
[Long Coding Helper]
Click on the red byte (below) and in the binary code you will see: 00000111
Change it to: 00001111
ie. with 1111 at the end not 111
Tab into the next bit box and you will see the code change to 0F (013F062220B90000832009042001040700000000000000000 00000000000 to 013B062220B90000832009042001040F000000000000000000 0000000000)
[close the long code helper]

I did not do the VCDS mod that you describe. I am currently running 0609 (I don't know if that makes a difference)

The auto engine shutoff w/door opening appeared in early MY2013 C7s. I suspect lots of folks complained and when 2013s arrived later in the year with MMI 0609, the coding was changed to remove the "feature" and continues with MMI 0715 and 2014 models. Must have seemed like a good idea to the engineers at the time. Not.

So, in the meantime, what I have been doing is to go outside, and start the car. This was not a big deal until I discovered that even if the proximity key is nowhere near the car, anyone walking by can just get in it and drive away. I was shocked at this as I at the very least would have expected the car to stall as soon as someone without the key put their foot on the brake pedal. Not the case. Also, as some of you may be asking...why didn't you just lock the car? Well, I tried locking the car with the remote, but it wont lock with it running. So, after talking with the dealer about this, his suggested work around was to walk out and start the car, then as I open the door to get out, press the lock button on the door (which will lock all doors but the driver door), and then close the driver door and use the actual "key" to manually lock it.
Failing that, could you roll the driver's window down, close the door and reach in and lock the car - then roll up the windows with the remote. (Assuming you code the windows of course.)
I'm assuming the car won't start with the key outside? It must detect a key inside the car before allowing a start?

Hi guys,
You have all been extremely helpful and I really appreciate the time and effort put forth by everyone in helping me to find a solution. What I am going to do, is leave well enough alone. If it isn't broken, dont try and fix it. I'd rather be safe than sorry. The last thing I want to do by trying to have one installed is screw something up.
Thank you all again for the help!
