I'm not sure what to think either. Yesterday I had to do some oil changes so since the Audi needed one too I thought I'd do them all together. The seven quarts that came out of the Audi looked really black! I have to wonder whether Audi actually changed the oil for the free first oil change at 5000 miles. Yes, this was the 10K oil change. In comparison, I was changing the oil in the wife's Lexus GX470. It didn't look as bad and that truck has 90K on the clock.

I couldn't decide whether to let Audi do this second oil change because the gas cap solenoid needs repair anyway. It doesn't lock.

Ah... my bad.

I thought you were quizzing me.

I'm sure the kid wasn't a total idiot, but I just didn't walk away with the impression that an Audi tech necessarily is an expert on these vehicles. They're trained to follow a manual. Manual says x, they do x.

True enough on the techs and no problem on missing my weak humor. While I don't claim to be an expert on just about anything, I do have a pretty fair idea of which engines go with which models. Mostly.

I think the reason the oil looks black is that your engine has DI and, like Diesel engines, produce soot due to the DI. This turns the oil black very quickly.
