Speed camera warning
#12
Most folks here probably aren't aware of features like this which have been available for ages "across the pond". Personally I think there would be a good market for this in the USA if it could be offered on an SD card or something that a typical end user could install himself. Red light cameras, speed cameras, roadside emissions checks, etc - there are many such hazards that US drivers would appreciate warning of.

A big part of the problem is that this discussion forum tends to be almost entirely USA-populated, and we've never gotten the cool Nav add-ons that EU has

I was getting the feeling of that just assumed / hoped it was a more international forum, being called audiworld and all. Now I realise it's about the world of audi in US hehe.
Anyway. Are there actually major differences between our NAVis? I'm not that sure. For instance, Google street view still doesn't work in my car and Audi refuses to update the FW. And the notification part is really limited. You have to keep your eyes on the MMI when looking for stuff on your route.
I installed a cheap chinese double DIN unit in my previous Honda (Acura) and it had quite a few more options in all regards. Not to mention free unlimited updates of maps, pois etc..

However there is hope in sight. Audi is moving towards integrating Android and Apple phones properly into their cars and with that integration it will be possible to use the navigation app on the iPhone or Android device and thus you could select one that allows location based alerts. Earliest we are likely to see this on an A6 however is the next generation (C8) which is probably an MY18 launch.
As other have said if you want speed camera alerts, either drive within the law so they are irrelevant, buy a cheap standalone navigation system that has them or use the navigation app on your phone with the alerts.

Or pick up a radar detector that supports and can update photo radar locations, i.e. the Escort 9500ix.

Depends on the location he's at. The Escort does NOT have the new NYC speed cameras in it, and never will, because they move them all the time. Even the police precincts don't know where they'll be at any given time. Damn things are making my life miserable. They're on the X and K bands, and so are most supermarket doors, so you never know whats false and whats real. My V1 could show 5 radars at any given time and they could all be false or some could be false and others the camera or cops.
More importantly, don't speed. The rules are there for a reason.
