Like I wrote, it's only a matter of time before T-Mo pings an older free 200MB sim and their computer discovers it's not a tablet. Then, it's done. New sims are now caought immediately it seems.

My point was stating that the prepaid SIM does work in the 2016 with 4G LTE.
I think T-Mobile pinging older SIM is speculation and not confirmed? Mine is 3 months old and going strong.

This is great. I guess I need to try to activate my other 99¢ SIMs while I still can. To be clear, you just have these on random IMEIs which are not the IMEI of the car?

I think one thing you could try, is when you call, see if there's a prepaid data promo. I was offered $10 for 4 months, with 2 GB data per month. I think there's less likelihood of them turning off a SIM if there's a paying customer.
I hope that helps.

The one I have working right now, I gave them the IMEI for the car.

200MB/month free for life on T-Mobile
I ordered a T-Mobile SIM card today and chatted with a specialist regarding how the 200MB/month free worked. He said you have to maintain an active account, which means you need to load the card at least every 90 days. He did say a $2 one-day pass would be sufficient to maintain it active. As a side note, the website looks like it is $5 for a one-day pass, which is still a good deal of $5 for 90 days of service.
Have you had to add data to your card or are you getting 200MB/month with no further action after 90 days?

I don't know if this has been shared before, so please delete if it's a repeat.
I was using a AT&T $10 tablet plan, but just didn't think I used the data enough to justify the cost.
I just got a Prepaid T-Mobile Data plan that comes with 200MB of data for the life of the account. Paid $0.99 plus tax for the SIM via the T-Mobile website. Once I received the card, called the number, told them I wanted the data only plan, confirmed 200 MB free, no money needed (only upon activation in the promo), even provided my IMEI number from the Audi. T-mobile didn't see the it as a car, and activated it. My first call to activate was set up as a cell phone incorrectly, and they offered me $10 in prepaid credits which was able to get me a promo offer of 5GB/month for 6 months.
All said, I got plenty of free data for 6 months, then 200 MB after that. My daily commute is about 15 miles each way so should be plenty for most months. I'm assuming if I ever go over, the data would stop coming through or they would move me to 2G...but I'll deal with that when I get there.

If you were getting 3G and now can get only 2G, you likely live in ine of the affected locations where T-Mobile has switched to new 3G bands and your modem in the 5F module needs to be updated.
