Things I don't like on my 2013 A6

Sorry I thought you guys were referring to the my2016 as a software for some reason. Thanks for clearing that up. As I was also quoted anywhere from $300-$1500 for MMI/Nav updates for my 2012 a6. I just thought that was a little ridiculous. I just want to use my bluetooth

Hello new here, i am currently looking for a used A6 and I found this thread very informative. I was wondering how much if anything was improved in the 2014 model as that is the year I seem to be focusing on? Thanks

Almost no changes over the 2012/2013. Only thing I can think of is the Audi Connect can use AT&T in addition to T-Mobile - assuming you are from the U.S.. That's it. All else is the same other than a few option packages were shuffled around.

2012/2013 had a mod restriction from the aftermarket vagcom standpoint. Only 2013s can activate the lap timer, oil temp and gear selector in instrument cluster/HUD using the vagcom. 2012s instrument cluster control module were not yet programmed to allow unlocking this option.

FWIW, I've not been able to activate the lap timer or oil temp on my 2013 either. Not sure any C7 has done those?

The 2014 seems to be the most flexible for allowing VCDS mods. The older models and the newer models are not as mod friendly.

I've researched this quite a bit since I want this on my car and remained ellusive until now. I plan to change-out my instrument cluster soon to see if that's the key to activating on a 2012.
I just activated lap timer on a 2013 A6 prestige during the last meet.
along with lap timer he got the oil temp display and the ever present useless "Boost" lettering in the instrument cluster with no boost readout of any kind. I suspect this Boost readings are only available on the 2.0 turbos and we lack the sensor for the readings that the 2.0 turbos have maybe?
Now to clarify...
On 2013-2015 the oil temp shows on instrument cluster and shown in the HUD
On 2013-2015 the gear selector is shown in both cluster and shown in the HUD (2012 does not support gear selector in HUD)
I suspect there is a difference between control modules allowing this to do it based on part number.
My 2012 prestige won't allow lap timer, nor temperature display in dash cluster or HUD. However, the gear selection shows in instrument cluster but NOT in HUD.
Interesting, what engine and what model trim? Do you have vagcom and can you post hardware version of your instrument cluster and HUD?
Yes yours in same boat as me I presume. Gears show in instrument cluster but wont show in HUD if you have one.
Lap timer won't activate and consequently no oil temp either since these two are tied together with activation of lap timer.

I do have a vcds but where do I find those version numbers?
I see something called "VAG number" in the menu, is that the one?
In that case it's 4G8 920 983 E for the instr cluster
I don't have a hud.
