Default VCDS data request

Could someone with VCDS please check whether Advanced Measuring Block 053 in the 53 - Parking brake module actually tracks the transmission selector?

In my car it does not, and I'm suspecting this is why S6 folks haven't been able to get the automatic engagement of the parking brake to work when selecting Park on the transmission.

Mine shows Neutral in any position, even when the reverse light switch (I forget which block that is) shows as active.

TIA!

I'll check it out.

But if that were the case wouldn't auto dis-engagement not work as well?

Thanks! I seem to recall a bunch of ECU parameters like requested torque, etc so if the EPB knows you're trying to roll away I don't know that it cares if you're in D, 1, 2, etc... It's *entirely* possible that I'm barking up the wrong tree, and I doubt this is something we could "fix" anyway, but I was surprised the "auto-engagement" mode didn't work for me or the other S6 poster I saw try it...so I guess it's just my nature to want to know why

Richard - I tried it tonight and no go. Showed exactly as your screen shot. Tried with the car switched on but not running, also with the engine running. No difference. Tried all gear selections (P/R/N/D/M) and the screen always said "Neutral". Car is a 2013 A6 3.0T Prestige.

Hmmm, maybe that blows my theory - does activating "P to EPB" in the adaptation channels get you the automatic parking brake application when you select "Park"? (You've got to first go enable the security access with the code VCDS will give you there.)

If so I guess I'm looking in the wrong place!

Thanks again!

I checked my '14 TDI this morning, shows the same as your screen shot. Sorry.

Have any of you been able to activate the "Shift P to EPB" and have the parking brake actually automatically apply when you put the car in Park?

Seems like either none of us (without the transmission gear showing in the measuring block) can, or there's some other mechanism at work.

I suspect the folks with the "normal" 8spd auto will work and it's some S-tronic thing, but maybe the feature's just gone now...

I tired the coding, and it was "accepted," but did not function. Re-coded back to OEM and haven't attempted again.

Totally different subject, I am wondering if the US tail-lights can be coded to act as if they were the ROW tail-lights? In the US case, rather than have the entire left side blink, just the top LED strip blink...meaning the brake lights are working on both sides.

Not sure if that is clear or not...but yeah....

Specific to the parking brake question...while looking on some of the UK Audi VAG-COM Forums, there is a functional difference between two part numbers -

Works -

Code:
Address 53: Parking Brake (----) Labels: 4H0-907-801.clb
   Part No SW: 4H0 907 801 G HW: 4H0 907 801 A
   Component: EPB-4 H03 0014
   Revision: -------- Serial number: 00000000884018
   ASAM Dataset: EV_ParkiBrake 001028
   ROD: EV_ParkiBrake_AU48.rod
   VCID: 2C537C7E47CB1B7E17F-8079

No fault code found.
Does NOT work -

Code:
 Address 53: Parking Brake (----) Labels: 4H0-907-801.clb
Part No SW: 4H0 907 801 E HW: 4H0 907 801 A
Component: EPB-4 H03 0012
Revision: -------- Serial number: 00000000316756
ASAM Dataset: EV_ParkiBrake 001022
ROD: EV_ParkiBrake.rod

No fault code found.

Note the difference in part numbers. That might explain why this can't be enabled with US versions. The question now is....who is going to go and check the P/Ns??

Sorry, I didn't realize I hadn't posted mine:
Code:
Address 53: Parking Brake (----) Labels: 4H0-907-801.clb
   Part No SW: 4H0 907 801 H HW: 4H0 907 801 A
   Component: EPB-4 H03 0015
   Revision: --------    Serial number: {redacted}
   ASAM Dataset: EV_ParkiBrake 001028
   ROD: EV_ParkiBrake_AU48.rod
It's interesting they say the G rev works, while E doesn't - and mine is H. I wonder if the TCU coding isn't the key - since the EPB can't change behavior without CAN messages from the TCU....
