Default 02 Audi A6 3.0

hello everyone,

I'm a first time foreign car owner and I bought a 2002 A6 3.0 Quattro 132k. what problems should I be looking for???? all your help is appreciated

First rule of buying an Audi: get a PRE purchase inspection, not a POST purchase inspection.

Find a good independent audi repair shop and have them check it out. They will know all the trouble areas of these cars.

I'd also add to search on the forum for mileage/maintenance related posts. You'd find a good insight into common issues and potential repairs by reading what others had to deal with.

Lastly, at 132k, timing belt (if yours has), water pump and associated parts that may need to be replaced should be looked at if they are not done already.

those have all been done. But a new problem developed.... injector fault and misfire cylinder 1 any ideas?

Codes??

Check ignition module of Cylinder 1, see if the spark is there. Swap the module from a working cylinder. If problem migrates to the good cylinder, replace the module.

Injector fault could bad injector...? may need replacement.

Nearly everything that goes wrong with these has been addressed before on this forum. You will find much relevant info here if you will just invest the time to search this forum. Click on the Search button in the red bar above. Select advanced and put in a few terms that describe your issue. Then scroll down to Search options and select search in forums and highlight only A6/ C5. Prepare to spend an hour or so being frustrated and read, read, read anything that sounds close to your issues. You will learn more doing this than waiting for someone to respond to your query.

I would also consider you might have a problem with a spark plug or coil. Or you may want to rule these out before going on to more costly possibilities. It is easy to switch the plug to another cylinder and see if the problem moves to that cylinder. Then try this with the coil. Then try swapping the ignition control modules.

If you are not a DIY then prepare yourself for expensive lessons. At the very least find a good Audi Indy repair shop. They will save you mega $ over the Audi dealer.

Agree with above. You can get OE parts (same part without Audi logo) and they can be somewhat expensive. Sometimes you just have to buy the original part like an O-ring for example from dealer or online and price just won't make sense but you can't put in substitute.

If you buy the parts and do the repair yourself, no doubt you'll save a lot.

Case in point: recently, dealer wanted $1400 to replace the fuel pump. With help of a member here, I bought the pump for approx. $230.00 and 3 or 4 hours of my time to fix it. You can see the difference.

for those wondering the codes I retrieved were P1237, P0300, P0301. I did pop the hood and gave a gentle push on the electrical connector on the #1 injector and the skipping seemed to stop. I did unplug it no change in motor, plugged back in problem came back intermittently. Now check engine light doesn't stay on but will flash every now and again. Possibly a short in the wire to the injector or just a bad injector in general. If its a bad injector should i go OEM or is it ok to go with a chain part store that says it would fit. I also thought about die-electric grease to make a better connection between the injector and the electric plug. Changing the injector doesn't appear to be a hard job.

A flashing CEL is more serious than a continuous light. Seems odd but true. The manual states a flashing light means the engine should be shut down ASAP. It is possible to do expensive damage if you continue to operate the car. For example, if your spark plug is not firing the fuel will dump into the cat and possibly foul or ruin it. Take this seriously.

The cheaper aftermarket parts are a crap shoot. Some work fine, others not. I would just look to ECS Tuning or some other Audi specialist parts house for a reduced price part rather than a local cheap place like O'Reilly or similar.

Ditto on the flashing CEL, unburnt gasoline in the cylinder is not good...

If continue to be driven, you might need one or two new catalytic converters soon
