my personal opinion; Go get it scanned, and get a printout of the full codes. Post them here before any re-timing work.
$300 for re-timing if a notch was skipped, sounds (oddly) cheap to me - afaik, its basically the same job as doing (just) the timing belt - and thats a big job on these. If its all good n' decent, you got away cheap - good for you

Yeah I plan on getting a print out. Its a friend of my coworker that works there and he works on his A8 for him a lot and I made a deal with him. I have a warranty for this car but it won't start til it's been a month and the car has driven 1000 miles so I told him if he fixed this really cheaply for me then I would bring my car to him for all the warranty work. It 3yrs 100,000 miles so he is making money back bc he charges the warranty company.

Not saying $300 is right for this, but, my tech does timing belts and assoc. parts in well under 1/2 day. He is a good tech, done piles of them and has all the short cuts. Like he does not do a full service position, just pulls the front out a few inches. I am not trying to argue with anyone on this, but there may be a way to do a re-timing properly and still do it profitably for $300. But I would be cautious and be sure this guy truly knows how and does it properly.
