Default 1998 A6 Broken Hood Cable

I have 1998 Audi Quattro A6 with the 2.8 the other night I noticed the hood release cable had no tension. I removed the two bolts holding the cable assembly inside the car and gave it a pull at that time the whole assembly came through. So needless to say the wire has come undone from the latch mechanism. The safety latch that you pull once the hood has been popped is working fine, but I cannot get the hood to pop open. I have been under the car and cannot see anywhere where I can get up to the latch mechanism to pop the hood. Has anyone else ran into this problem on a 1998. I have removed the front grill and that basically just gives you access to the safely latch mechanism. I just about ready to take a reciprocating saw to the assembly and just replace the entire mechanism once I get the hood open.* I figured I would ask around before taking such a serious approach to opening the hood. Any suggestions welcomed.* Quick review of what I have done so far.
1.****** Removed (came out on its own) cable release mechanism
2.****** Removed driver side tire and inner fender well to see if I can get a better view
3.****** Removed front grill
4.****** Tried to access from the bottom of the car but cannot see of find the latch

Could someone please take a photo of the upper and lower mechanism on their 98 Audi please? I can not find a way to pop the latch on this car from underneath. The safety latch works fine but with the cable missing I can not get the main latch to pop the hood up. Maybe if I saw the mechanism I could figure a way to pop the main latch. Thank you !!!

Default Have you actually removed the belly pan and tried it?

The cable actually pulls the release lever to the driver's side (same side the cable comes to the latch from) so worst case you may have to use the long screw driver to move the lever toward the cable. You should be able to see the cable from underneath...they usually break somewhere between the latch and the lever inside the car.

The entire cable assembly has come out. So know I can not even see where the ball end of the cable went into the latch. You can not see the latch from underneath this car. The car has way to much crap up front.

If you can't do it yourself, it may be time to take it to someone who can.
