Default 2/26/2017 Brake Job

So yesterday I did the brakes on my A6, and I wanted to share with yall what I got done. A buddy of mine at work let me borrow his lift and tools, as I'm a sad college student without a garage.

I replaced the OEM pads with the Akebono pads because I'm so tired of having to clean my wheels every other day. I was also getting some squeaking from my old pads on occasion. It also turned out my old pads were just about spent anyway, as they were quite close to being worn down to the wear sensor.

While I had everything apart I wanted to take it one step further and paint my calipers, so I painted them black (red was just too racey for me). I also got some high temp caliper stickers on ebay that I wanted to put on them. I decided to put a couple coats of clear caliper paint over the decals to help seal them on for a lasting job.

Overall I'm quite pleased with my results (considering I didn't remove the caliper for painting). The top parts of the calipers didn't get much paint on them, so the next time I have my wheels off I'll be painting them. It's hardly noticeable because they're hidden by the wheels but it's something I want to OCD about.
As for the pads, I was pretty hesitant at first because the new ones were spongey as all heck. I thought for a bit that I had a busted brake line that's how different it was. We bled all four corners and got a small amount of air out of the lines, but the improvements have been minimal. Reading around it seems like the pads will become more responsive as they bed in. Fingers crossed.

Are you kidding me? That lift itself would've saved me so much time during my repairs. Buy more beer for that friend .
