2.7t mt6 transfer case fill plug, where is it???
Hey guys,
ive searched everywhere, google and the forum and i cant find anything.
Where is the fill plug for the transfer case?? I can find the drain plug at the bottom but i cant seem to find where to fill it... The only thing i can think it would be is one of those huge like 22mm hex nuts on the side, but that just doesnt seem right...
also in my searches i found someone talking about front diff oil which i didnt even know existed until now... They were talking about it on a 4.2 and they said the fill plug is the drain plug and you need to pump it out. Is that the same case with the 2.7t??
thanks in advance

What do you mean by transfer case? Rear Diff? Center Diff?
If you mean the Rear Differential, the plug to check the oil level is at the passenger rear side of the diff, probably hidden by one of the grease shields (for the inner CV joint). It takes a 10 mm allen wrench to remove it.

no separate transfer case on MT cars. Front dif is integral to trans and shares lube. The plug is on driver side of trans. Mine takes a 17mm allen. Some might have a 16mm triple square bit.
Takes 75w90 synthetic oil. I think either GL4 or GL5 works as long as synth. I use Redline 75w90 GL4. If no oil cooler like mine, the level is 7mm below the hole and car must be level. If it has a trans oil cooler, correct level is 1mm below fill hole lip. I use a small allen wrench as a dipstick to check level.
Rear dif takes 75w90 lube. there I use mobil 1.

okay thanks guys, i just thought it was weird that there was a drain plug on the transfer case (center diff) and yes i made sure i got the fill plug open before i did it.
motul has something called motylgear and its a 75w90 gear oil for highmileage transmissions to help with smooth shifting. it has worked really well for me, its only been a week on the new oil but my trans would grind second gear when cold and now it shifts find.
thanks everyone for answering, hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
