2.8 Variable Volume Intake Manifold Test
Does anyone know how to test if the variable volume intake feature on the 2.8 is working properly? Its the diaphram/lever contraption under the coil packs.

A vacuum solenoid is actuated at 3200 rpm maybe a bit higher to advance the manifold change over valve or tuning spool, have someone rev up the engine and watch the vac actuator lever move.

Won't VCDS actuate it at engine idle?
I don't know for sure, but it seems that's one way to see if it works. Whether it works at 3200 is another question, perhaps by logging while driving?

The rpm +3000 worked. It actuated. I'm unclear of the actual rpm value that initiated the vac, but it was above 3 below 4. I tested, as jcman suggested, on startup a few times without any reaction from the vac solenoid. I was trying to keep everything cold while testing. It turns out, after it ran for a few minutes, the vac solenoid would initiate. Went back and tried it on a cold start, and there was nothing. Few minutes later, actuated fine. The word of the day is actuate, and initiate.

Good on you! Glad to hear it worked after a few minutes.

Those words of the day must be in a mechanical order too.
