You got that one right. I inquired about servicing the tranny when the car was six years old and they just about refused to do it. They said not to touch it unless it was leaking. Any guess why ZF says to service it and Audi says not to?

Because ZF knows what it takes to make the transmission last a long time…Audi really doesn't care past 60K miles…they're just interested in making a good score in stuff like intellicar's 5 year cost of ownership and Audi's free scheduled maintenance. Can you imagine the cost to the bottom line of audi's entire production with ZF automatics if they had to include a transmission fluid and filter change in the first 4/50K miles of ownership? As it is, they sometimes have to replace transmissions during that period….my 2K4.2A6 was one.
Since then (@32K) I've religiously serviced the trans every 50-60K miles. It has 181K on it now and is due.

They will…you just have to pay for it.

If this is so simple why can't AAMCO be trusted? Previous poster left a link to ZF. Other than truck service, none in the Wash, DC area.

Wow that's a wide open statement, can any auto service center be trusted?

"I Trust None" and I'm a 25yr self employed commercial refrigeration service tech that has serviced my own vehicles for many years and very much knows all the games these so called experts play.

You are better off finding a WV/Audi indy or do it yourself for piece of mind and wallet control.

I think it is because people come in AFTER they start noticing "something".
Then when the change does not fix the problem they blame it for making it worse.

AAMCO love to use their fancy dancy flushing machine, and I doubt they know how to set the fluid level without a dipstick.

Like anything else, it comes down to the integrity of the owner and the skill and care of the tech. Chains have a problem though: they typically pay like crap and tend toward "standardized practices" - which you don't want.

If you know this shop, and knwo the tech, and can explain what you want done, its pretty simple. Their lift makes it 10x easier than doing it yourself though. That said, i may do my next one.
