You got that one right. I inquired about servicing the tranny when the car was six years old and they just about refused to do it. They said not to touch it unless it was leaking. Any guess why ZF says to service it and Audi says not to?

Since then (@32K) I've religiously serviced the trans every 50-60K miles. It has 181K on it now and is due.

"I Trust None" and I'm a 25yr self employed commercial refrigeration service tech that has serviced my own vehicles for many years and very much knows all the games these so called experts play.
You are better off finding a WV/Audi indy or do it yourself for piece of mind and wallet control.

Then when the change does not fix the problem they blame it for making it worse.

Like anything else, it comes down to the integrity of the owner and the skill and care of the tech. Chains have a problem though: they typically pay like crap and tend toward "standardized practices" - which you don't want.
If you know this shop, and knwo the tech, and can explain what you want done, its pretty simple. Their lift makes it 10x easier than doing it yourself though. That said, i may do my next one.
