2000 2.7t wont start
So, my mom was driving my car, and she said the car started to sputter a bit, but when stepping on the throttle it did not want to go. She shut the car off and then refused to start. Thought it could be the crank position sensor, so I bought a new one to replace it and after installation the car still would not start. Tired to spray ether to try to get it to fire, but wouldn't even fire on ether. Have any thoughts on what it could be?

Could also be bad gas.

However, that should not have stopped it from firing up with some starting fluid. About all you can do is pull one of the coils and set it up to a spare spark plug grounded and see if the plug sparks. When it doesn't, you'll be best off by getting a code reader and finding out what is going on. RossTech makes a good one for the DIY person, called VCDS.
BTW, it is possible you have a defective new CPS or even it was installed wrong.

Is there a difference between CPS used on manual and automatic transmission? I keep finding multiple part numbers and well so far the manual version is the cheaper but no one can confirm there's a difference.

Part number is different for manual and auto. Also it matters what year if you have an auto. The split is in 2001. All this is assuming you have a 2.7t as you don't specify.

Do diagnostics to check timing. Sounds very much like timing belt has slipped or jumped a couple of teeth. When that happens, cranking the motor it will seem like the motor is right on the verge of starting but won't quite fire and go. Adding starting fluid won't help either. Exercise caution as too much ether washes down the cylinder walls, removing the oil film giving you metal to metal contact between piston rings and cylinder walls. You can seize the motor if you aren't careful.
