Default 2000 2.8 oil temp question

Does anyone KNOW if the ECU uses the oil temp reading for anything other than display on the gauge?

My gauge never moves, and I am assuming it is the sender.

Just wondering if it is causing any other problems?

No ECU reporting it's direct to the gauge only.

The oil level / temp sensor "thermistor" is bad or the connection to it or the gauge in the cluster is shot but do remember that you can test all cluster functions, bells and whistles with vagcom/VCDS, this unit sensor is mounted in the oil pan and serves two functions not to be confused with the oil pressure sender.

Yep, know what it does.
Just trying to decide if I should replace it as an oil change is coming up soon.

Well, my front end rebuild ended up on the loosing end of a bumper to bumper stress test yesterday.

Looks like I have some minor re-straightening to do. The nice clean and near perfect fenders I put on are both are slightly bowed, so I am definitely calling it quits to anything beyond necessary maintenance.

Mechanically and rust-wise the car is in very good shape.
The front won't be as pretty as I hoped, but it should serve my son reliably for a good while. (Keeping fingers crossed till he has enough saved for a 'new'(er) (to him) car.
